2014 Drill Test Promotion Criteria

Foot Drills

Command: SEDI-A
Drill movement:
At the command, move both arms to the side of the body simultaneously with the raising of the left knee.
Straighten both arms, clench fists, thumbs facing forward, covering ‘hole’ and all five fingers touching the thigh.
With the right leg remain straight and anchored to the ground, raise the left knee up to 90° with the thigh perpendicular to body, shin parallel to the body and the knee bent, feet pointing naturally downwards.
Then drive the left heel to strike the ground, just beside the right heel forming a 30° angle between the two feet with the heels touching each other.
The whole movement is completed sharply and forcefully.
Common faults:
The shoulders are slouched.
Roving eyes.
Bending of the wrists and failing to keep the arms close to the body.
Feet or body not square to the front.
Heels do not touch each other,
Feet turn out more than 30°.

Command: SENANG DI-RI
Drill movement:
At the command, move both arms to the back of the body simultaneously with the raising of the left knee.
For both arms, straighten out fingers, in closed manner (like saluting), and arms. Rest both hands in line with vertical center of the body with the left hand palm over right hand back of palm and pull back shoulders to broadest point.
With the right leg remain straight and anchored to the ground, raise the left knee up to 90° with the thigh perpendicular to body, shin parallel to the body and the knee bent, feet pointing naturally downwards.
Then drive the left heel to strike the ground, shoulder-width apart from the right heel.
Common faults:
Bending of the wrist when moving.
Allow the arms to bend or to leave the body when going behind the back.
Moving the right foot.
Left foot is not at the correct angle to the right foot.

Command: KE-KIRI PU-SING
Drill movement:
At the command, using the right leg and pivoting on the left, turn the body to face 90° to the left, keeping the weight of the body on the left foot. Straighten both legs after the first movement.
Throughout the movement, the both knees are braced and the body erect.
At the end of the movement, the left foot is flat on the ground and the right leg is to the rear with the heel raised.
Then, raise the right knee to right angles with the thigh perpendicular to body, shin parallel to the body and feet pointing naturally  downwards.
Lastly, drive the right heel to strike the ground, just beside the left heel in an attention position.
Common faults:
The weight is not being placed on the forward foot in the first movement.
Not making a full turn with body and shoulders in the first movement.
Moving the arms, particularly during the second movement.
Legs not lifted up high enough such that the thigh is parallel to the ground.
The calf is not perpendicular to the thigh.

Command: KE-KANAN PU-SING
Drill movement:
At the command, using the leg leg and pivoting on the right, turn the body to face 90° to the right, keeping the weight of the body on the right foot. Straighten both legs after the first movement.
Throughout the movement, the both knees are braced and the body erect.
At the end of the movement, the right foot is flat on the ground and the left leg is to the rear with the heel raised.
Then, raise the left knee to right angles with the thigh perpendicular to body, shin parallel to the body and feet pointing naturally  downwards.
Lastly, drive the left heel to strike the ground, just beside the right heel in an attention position.
Common faults:
The weight is not being placed on the forward foot in the first movement.

Commands: KE-BELAKANG PU-SING
Drill movement:
At the command, using the leg leg and pivoting on the right, turn the body to face 180° to the right, keeping the weight of the body on the right foot. Straighten both legs after the first movement.
Then, raise the left knee to right angles with the thigh perpendicular to body, shin parallel to the body and feet pointing naturally  downwards.
Lastly, drive the left heel to strike the ground, just beside the right heel in an attention position.
Common faults:
The weight is not being placed on the forward foot in the first movement.
Not making a full turn with body and shoulders in the first movement.
Moving the arms, particularly during the second movement.
Legs not lifted up high enough such that the thigh is parallel to the ground.
The calf is not perpendicular to the thigh.

Command: KE-KANAN LU-RUS
Drill movement:
At the command, the right marker’s column will raise their right arms forward and the first rank will raise their right arms to the right.
Everyone, except the right marker’s column, will also turn their heads 45° to the right.
Then everyone will do a bang with their left leg.
If there is insufficient space, right marker’s column and first rank will raise their arms to the right and back of the shoulder respectively.
Then, everyone will shuffle their feet to take dressing. The right marker’s column will take dressing of 1 arm 6 inches from the person in front forward in line with the back of the hand facing right. Knuckles of closed hand should be 6 inches from the shoulder of the man in front.
The first rank will take dressing of 1 arm length by lifting their right arm to the side with the first clenched. Knuckles should touch the left arm of the man to their right, keeping the back of hand facing upwards.
If the person on your right is taller than you, you should raise your right arm to that person’s shoulder level.
If the person on your right is shorter than you, you should raise your right arm to that person’s shoulder level.
Correct dressing by shuffling the feet, whilst body remain upright, until you can see the chin of the alternate person on your right by glancing out of the corner of your eye.
When everyone has taken their dressing accordingly, the shuffling will stop.
The right marker will not do any arm or head movement.
You should be shuffling your feet even if you are in the correct position.
Centre and rear ranks ensure they are in straight rows by aligning themselves to the person in front of them and at the right of them.
Common faults:
Sluggish movement
Nto looking up or square to the right
Shoulder inclined to the back
Craning forearm
Bending of the wrists
Not keeping the shoulders square to the front.
Unnecessary movement and shuffling.
Looking downwards.

Command: CEPAT JA-LAN
Drill movements:
Begin marching with the left foot.
March by taking a step forward with the left foot, swinging the right arm forward like a pendulum until it is perpendicular or 90° to the body and left arm backward till it is about 45° to the body, coordinating with the opposing leg.
The legs should be kicked straight forward. Each step is taken with the heel striking and digging the ground first.
Continue marching forward by alternating with the right foot.
Check dressing by taking reference with the leading row and the rank on the left.
Common faults:
Not keeping the arms, wrists and hands straight.
Not pulling the arm hard enough backwards.
Allowing the foot to come into contact with the ground with the knee bent.
Not swinging the arm in a straight line from front to rear.

Command: BERHEN-TI (From marching)
Drill movements:
The command will be given when the left heel strike the ground.
At the timing “check”, take one step forward with the right foot.
At the timing “1”, take one foot forward with the left foot. Then, bring the arms to the sides in a ‘scissors cut action’ and lift up the right leg simultaneously, drive it to the ground to assume the position of attention.
Common faults:
Bending at the waist when “bending the right knee”
Exaggerating the movement of the right arm when “bending the right knee”
There is no “scissors cut action”
Taking 2 steps instead of one step forward after the command is given.
Incorrect balance on completion of halt

Command: KELUAR- BARIS
Drill movement:
At the command, do a static turn to the right.
Then after the second “check”, do a quick march for 3 steps before walking off.

Command: BERSU-RAI
Drill movement:
At the command, do a static turn to the right.
Then at the timing “up” do a salute to the left, to pay compliments to the Officer in charge of dismissal. After the officer has returned a salute, the timer will give a “check-down” where the salute will be cut at the timing “down”.
Lastly, after the last “check”, do a quick march for 3 steps before walking off.

Congratulations to these distinguished former VS NPCC cadets

Congratulations to these distinguished former VS NPCC cadets in the recent scholarship exercise.

Muhammad Syakir Bin Kamal (4I 2009) has been awarded the Singapore Government Scholarship (Open) by the Public Service Commission. He will receive his scholarship from DPM Teo Chee Hean on 22 July 2014. He was Sec 1 Squad OIC for 2009. He went on to Raffles Institution.

Benjamin Tan Wen Wei (4A 2010) has been awarded the Singapore Merit Scholarship (Police) by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He will receive his scholarship from DPM Teo Chee Hean on 16 August 2014. Benjamin was in the Campcraft team in 2008 and 2010. He was Badge Coordinator for 2010. He went on to Victoria Junior College.

Lim Jun Yang (4A 2010) was awarded the Sword of Honour, for being the top overall midshipman in his Naval Officer Cadet Course at Officer Cadet School. He received his Sword of Honour last evening from DPM Tharman. Jun Yang was in the Campcraft team in 2008 and 2010. He was also the 2010 Captain. Jun Yang was also Best Unit Cadet and received the SPF-NPCC Badge Award. He was Head of Administration for 2010. He went on to Anderson Junior College.

We hope that this would spur our cadets on upon knowing their seniors' exemplary achievements.
